Models' relationships suffer over work

JOHOR BARU, MALAYSIA: Local models here sure do not go by Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy, the 1991 hit song about the fashion industry.

On the contrary, these women find that they have a tough time maintaining steady relationships due to their long working hours and “jealous” partners.

Former accountant and full-time model Adrazalina Abd Ghani, 26, said it was difficult to stay in a relationship as many guys were insecure about her career.

“My job requires me to walk the catwalk at fashion shows,” she said. “And contrary to what people may think, many men attend these events.”

The stunning model, who is currently single, said that throughout her five-year career as a model, she had been involved in several relationships but the long hours and “trust issues” played a major role in the break-ups.

“Men should not be insecure about being in a relationship with a model. They should learn to trust us more,” she said.

Fellow model Siti Nurjannah Kasnaini, 23, echoed Adrazalina’s views.

“I have been a model for more than a year now. The job requires a lot of time and commitment,” she said, adding that it was one of the reasons why she had been on her own for the past year.

Siti said she was in no rush to get into a relationship although she hoped to find Mr Right when the time comes.

Model and mother Melati Azman, 26, said the key to having a successful marriage while still being a model was mutual trust and a willingness to compromise.

“I have been happily married for more than three years now,” she said, adding that she and her footballer husband Mohd Riduan Maon, 29, have a three-year-old daughter, Qistina Darwisyah.

Melati said her husband was supportive of her career and would regularly attend her fashion shows with their daughter.

Mohd Riduan, who attended the event, admitted that he would be jealous at times when he noticed other men ogling at his wife. However, he stressed that he loved her and would support her career.

“As long as we love each other, other issues do not matter,” he said.

Adrazalina, Siti and Melati were among the models who took park in a fashion show at Plaza Pelangi shopping mall on Saturday.

The beauties paraded the latest fashions from Metrojaya, Yen Fashion, Magic Scarf and accessories from I Niny Jewelery throughout the four-hour event.
