TAIWAN-BORN fashion designer Tsai Ming Hung is hugely passionate about menswear.
The Singaporean permanent resident was one of three winners at the annual fashion competition, Star Creation 2011. The contest is part of the Asia Fashion Exchange.
The 28-year-old's win earned him an internship with fashion retailer FJ Benjamin.
Tsai, who says he's inspired by designers like John Galliano and Jun Takahashi, will create a capsule collection for next year's Star Creation fashion show.
my paper caught up with him for a chat.
Why is your focus on menswear?
For me, menswear is a challenge as there aren't as many things you can play with. It's not like womenswear where you have dresses, skirts and other elements.
Do you think that Asian men know a thing or two about dressing well?
Men from Japan and Thailand in particular dress themselves in interesting ways. Asian men have their own character (when it comes to fashion).
Everyone has their own style. I hope I will inspire men and that my (future) brand will be a model for them.
What did you think of the other Star Creation finalists' designs?
All of the other finalists and winners had very strong designs. I think any of us could have won. The competition was very stiff.
