Four ministers attended the opening ceremony of the 2012 Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center on Thursday.
The ministers were Industry Minister M. S Hidayat, Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Syarifudin Hasan and Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari E. Pangestu.
Hidayat said the IFW, which was initiated by the Indonesian Fashion Designers Association, was not about the present moment but was a movement that marked the development of Indonesia's fashion industry.
"The Industry Ministry will focus on the training and design development aspects, product standardization and facilitating pilot project," Hidayat said Thursday as quoted by tempo.co.
"Let us support Indonesia's fashion industry so that one day we can be one of the world's fashion centers," Hidayat said.
The head of the fashion week organizing committee, Ami Wirabudi, said the IFW was the product of a dream of local fashion designers. She expected the IFW could facilitate the local fashion industry in competing globally.
Five hundred designers and small and medium entrepreneurs are participating in the four-day event, which expects to attract 30,000 visitors.
