Cantopop star Denise Ho has voiced her desire to become a mother, slightly over a week after she was declared to be a lesbian.
"I wish to get married and have babies," Denise told Taiwan's reporters on Monday, ahead of the 49th Golden Horse Awards, in which she has been nominated for Best Actress award for her performance in Life without Principle.
The 35-year-old singer said she was searching for the right sperm donor, who is talented, has good personality and is quite good looking.
"I've migrated to Canada, same sex marriage is legal there," said Denise, who moved to the foreign land with her family when she was 11. She returned to Hong Kong to participate in the New Talent Singing Championship in 1996. Her victory led her to sign a recording contract with Capital Artists.
Having dodged questions about her sexual orientation for years, Denise's move to come out of the closet has been viewed by some media as a publicity-stunt to save her career that is going downhill.
Denise refuted the claims. "A supposedly personal issue has become so complicated. This is not my initial intention, I stepped up and did it because I wished that the people would be more tolerant [to homosexuals]," she said, adding her parent and mentor, the late Anita Mui, knew that she's a lesbian all along.
Meanwhile, Hebe Tien, a member of Taiwanese girls group S.H.E, revealed that she considered seeking oocyte cryopreservation service–a technology to extract an egg from a woman and preserve it for future use.
The 29-year-old, however, said she was afraid of pain and finds the process too troublesome.
The singer also said if she had not found her Mr Right by her 30th birthday in March next year, she might undergo artificial insemination to conceive a baby with a foreigner, so that she’ll have a mixed blood child.
