IF there is one thing Christopher Lee wishes he can do for fiancee Fann Wong, it is to shield her from the unfair criticisms that have plagued her since his father’s death. Her no-show – first at the wake and now, the funeral – had set tongues wagging.
It did not help that she had continued with the filming of her new MediaCorp drama, The Ultimatum, and also promotional activities for the film The Wedding Game.
After all, the couple had planned to marry later this year.
While Christopher seemed resigned to the criticisms, he said: “Each time I read the (newspaper) reports, I feel so sad.”
It was unfair to pin the blame on his fiancee, he added, because “it was my decision not to let her come here.”
Christopher explained that Fann’s “schedule was packed right from the start”.
“She had to film from early morning till night,” said the actor, who will be leaving for China for his next production.
“I was the one who kept her from coming here. It was too risky for her to drive all the way here in the middle of the night.”
Christopher said he was also saddened by the public reaction – especially when he and his family members fully understood the situation.
He said: “My family members – including my grandmother and my mum – are behind us all the way.
“No one’s blamed her for not being able to make it.”
Christopher added: “It really does not matter. I know deep in my heart where Fann’s heart is.
“And that’s good enough for us.”
