They're no style superheroes
by Jeanmarie Tan

If you're wondering where all the Kryptonite was in Man Of Steel, look no further than the Superman blockbuster's premieres in New York City and London.

Its leading ladies Amy Adams (who plays Clark Kent/Superman's journalist gal pal Lois Lane) and Antje Traue (as General Zod's villainous right-hand woman Faora) that were pretty unstoppable on the big screen.

But it's the red carpet that has proven to be their unlikely weakness.

Man Of Steel is undoubtedly the biggest movie of their careers, but you wouldn't have guessed it the way US actress Adams, 38, and German starlet Traue, 32, were dressed.

For a flick about a superhero togged in primary colours, both of them ended up being flat and colourless.

1. Expectations ran high for Adams, whom I love as an actress but loathe as a fashionista, as the promo tour was her chance to shine.

But once I clapped eyes on her strapless silk Nina Ricci column gown with rosette detailing along the corset at the New York City premiere, all hope was lost.

It's black, it's boring and I've forgotten about it already.

And whoever tried to pass off that stiff, halfbaked hairstyle as glamorous Old Hollywood pinned waves should be fired on sight.

2. Traue went the opposite direction by opting for white at the same event, but that just put me into an even deeper slumber.

Save this crisp, structured dress from Jil Sander and those prim black criss-cross Christian Louboutin pumps for a luncheon or something.

3. Over in London, Adams wore a ladylike strapless nude Valentino fit-and-flare frock with black embroidered mesh overlay, but still can't shake off her plain Jane image.

That pathetic-looking ruched bodice is hanging so low, we're afraid her breasts may make a break for it.

But I approve of the playful geometricpatterned skirt and sexy black Casadei suede ankle-strap pumps.

4. Traue joined her co-star in literally a sad sack of a dress.

You can't pay me enough to put on her unflattering black quilted and organza Chanel number, featuring exaggerated puff sleeves and white pearl accents along the neckline and hemline (paired with nondescript black Christian Louboutin pointy pumps).

Style superheroes these two certainly are not.
