Beauty secrets: Cecilia Chng
by Gladys Chung

Cecilia Chng

The 20-year industry veteran and owner of Vive Salon at Paragon is the go-to make-up artist of local socialites. Celebrities she has worked with include supermodel Naomi Campbell and fashion entrepreneur Kimora Lee Simmons.

What is the one product you would not step out of the house without?

My Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara, (below, $52, from Dior counters). It is not waterproof but it does not smudge even when I wear it from morning till midnight. Most waterproof mascaras are so difficult to remove and the residue leaves me with panda eyes when I wake up the next morning.

This mascara also lengthens and volumises my lashes without clumping, especially when I layer the Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum ($52) underneath it.

A good mascara or false lashes are important because they can make your eyes look bigger and brighter.

Which is your favourite perfume?

Hermes' Eau de Merveilles. It is not available in Singapore so I get a bottle when my friends or I travel to Europe. I love its fresh and pleasant scent. Whenever someone smells it on me, eight out of 10 times they will say I smell good and ask what perfume I'm wearing.

What is the one grooming service you cannot do without?

I work in a salon so I get a haircut, hair treatment or manicure and pedicure whenever I want. To make my skin brighter, I visit Dr Sydney Tan at Novena Medical Centre for my laser treatments, and Desire Aesthetics at One North for Intense Pulsed Light Treatments, at least once a month.

What, in your opinion, is the best beauty invention?

Lipgloss. It brightens the face, gives it a glow and can make your lips look more plump. Colourless, dry and peeling lips are just awful. My favourite lipgloss are from Dior, M.A.C and Estee Lauder.

What is the most ridiculous thing you have done in the name of beauty?

I'm pretty safe with my beauty habits. I've never done anything crazy to make myself look good. I have never even bleached my hair. I only colour my hair to cover the grey areas.

Share a beauty tip with us.

It is important to have good skin. So I stick to my beauty routine - cleanse, serum, eye cream, moisturiser - every day no matter how tired I am. I also use a variety of masks at least two or three times a week.

When you have good skin, you do not need a lot of make-up.
