Best way to style a pair of skorts
by Sarah Giam

Skorts look like a skirt but with shorts underneath, and have been seen on supermodel Karolina Kurkova and fashion blogger Rumi Neely.

Fashion stylist Azawi David says how you style your skort depends on the occasion.

For a casual beach outing, wear it with a T-shirt or cropped top. Look for skorts with fun prints for a weekend brunch, like this floral-printed one from Miss Selfridge (photo 1, $79, 01-13, Orchard Gateway).

For evenings, when you might need something a bit more formal, she recommends pairing plain-coloured skorts with a structured top like this one from Miss Selfridge (photo 2, $59) and a blazer (photo 3, $109, Zara, B1-12, Takashimaya Shopping Centre). If you need more coverage, opt for something longer like this olive-coloured pair from Topshop (photo 4, $79, B2-01, Ion Orchard).

For shoes, these styles from Nine West would complement the structured look of skorts: a pair of strappy heels (photo 5, $87.50, 01-08, Wisma Atria Shopping Centre) or sandals (photo 6, $108.50) with thick straps.

For accessories, keep things simple with a silver cuff (photo 7, $30, www.asos.com) or a pendant necklace (photo 8, $19.90, New Look, B2-34, 313@somerset). If your outfit is mostly plain though, you can jazz it up with a statement necklace like this one from River Island (photo 9, $54.09, www.asos.com).

Ms David says that women with short and stumpy legs should avoid wearing skorts, as the asymmetrical hemline will draw attention to their legs and could be unflattering.
