Lianhe Wanbao reported in this evening's paper that three of Ris Low's lies have been exposed:
Lie #1 - ERM World Marketing had known about her conviction
In an interview with the press last week, Low said that ERM knew about the credit card fraud prior to the contest because one of the requirements for entering the pageant included a criminal check.
Yesterday, Low confessed that she only told ERM when the news broke last Friday.
Lie #2 - ERM will continue to allow her to participate in the contest
Low told Lianhe Wanbao last Friday that ERM told her as long as the press did not get wind of her criminal record, she will be allowed to continue competing in Miss Singapore World. She even mentioned that she was worried about ERM's decision.
However, in an interview with The Straits Times yesterday, Ris said that ERM only knew of her past on Friday.
Lie #3 - She was fully aware of the clauses
Last Friday, Low told Lianhe Zaobao that she was fully aware of the terms and conditions when she signed up for the contest in June. She also reckoned that a supervised probation does not equate to a criminal charge or conviction, therefore she did not make any declarations.
However, she said in an interview yesterday that she did not read the terms and conditions in detail.
"I didn't read the clause in detail because all these were not required in other pageants," said Ris Low.
19yearold Ris Low gave up her Miss Singapore World title on Tuesday, following controversies over her credit card fraud conviction.
The search is now on for her replacement. Although competition rules stipulate that the pageants runnerup Claire Lee is next in line to assume the crown, an ERM spokesperson said all options are open.
This means any of the 21 finalists can be considered to take Ms Lows place.
The spokesperson said Ms Lows replacement could also be winners of pageants like Miss Singapore Globe and Miss Singapore Model of the World, which are organised by ERM.
When asked if the new representative will have enough time to prepare for the Miss World finals in midDecember, ERM .....
Crime does not pay... Stole people's credit cards... and now her Miss Beauty Crown has also been taken off from her & the golden opportunity to represent Singapore has been "stolen" from her too.
Sad that she did not consider the consequences of her actions... Anyhow, she is still young. Hope she learns from this lesson & not to repeat it again in the future...:o
It was unfortunate that you had to make the decision to give up your crown and not take part in the Miss World pageant, missing out on a one-time only experience in your life.
Everybody makes mistakes, but as a celebrity, one would come under much more scrutiny compared to the average joe. However, I believe you would repay your debt and make good for the mistakes made.
Look, you are only 19 and you have a whole life ahead. One bad experience does not dictate the rest of your life. So move on and take this as a lesson learnt.
Good luck and good journey.
Cheers, Mike.
She has not shown any sign of repent nor is sincere and honest about her past.....she will continue to hide and lie if all these were not exposed.....
There's definitely something fishy going on. Who's not telling the truth? ERM or Ris Low? Did ERM really not know? How come just a juve probation for such a serious crime? It's not just shoplifting, it's theft and fraud. She was convicted in May, but allowed to join the pageant in June? What...???
Thank goodness she no longer represents us. What an embarrassment to our country. A liar, cheat, and cant even speak English. Her parents should be caned.
What she had misappropriated was in thousands of dollars of money, which she did it when she was not in the need for cash. Sound stupid to me.
When her lies were exposed, she was quick to defend herself with even more stupid excuses. She don't even have the decency to resign from the crown by herself.
Dishonest and greedy. She is just full of it.
I agree that it is right for her to step down. But :-
1. Can she be sued for purportedly not declaring her previous convictions ?
2. Yes, the case is not as simple as it appears on the surface. To me, this whole issue is tainted with fishiness. Beware of business people & those that seemingly are of reputation. Miss Low is immatured & could easily be used in this game.
