Local social escort agencies are doing a service to the male clients who employ their services and look for escorts, but it's not the kind you may have in mind.

Bachelors are looking for pretty, young and presentable female escorts to bring home to show off to families, relatives and friends - as their girlfriends or wives, reported Shin Min Daily News last week.

That's right. More Singaporean men are turning to escort services,looking for girls to pose as their girlfriends. A spokesman for one such agency said that these men make for 20 per cent of the company's business and the men tend to use their services on a long-term basis, from anywhere between three to six months. The girls will attend social functions such as weddings or parties with their clients as their partners.

But before embarking on the job, the female escorts must do their homework and match their stories with that of their clients, such as how they met each other, what are their professions, ages and family backgrounds in order to tackle any questions that her clients' family members and friends may throw at them.

The reasons for getting social escorts to pose as their partners vary for these men. Some look for pretty girls to show off to friends and family, to give the impression that he is 'capable'. Others do so because parents want their sons to get hitched, and so the men do this to pacify his family.

Fees for these services are paid by the hour, but customers do get special rates, as these engagements tend to be long-term, and customers become regulars.

While there are many reasons for men to hire social escorts, some do so to make ex-partners who have dumped them become jealous.

These men want escorts who have angelic-looking faces and a good figure to parade before their previous girlfriends, and in the process make their partners jealous enough to want to return back into a relationship with them.

Some men, mostly foreigners, may also miss their wives who are not with them. They would email pictures of their wives to the escort agencies, hoping to look for a girl who resembles their spouses back at home to keep them company.
