Blogger Xiaxue's web proposal
by Nicholas Yong

Celebrity blogger Xiaxue, who has made a career out of publicising her private life and thoughts, will now see her own marriage proposal turned into an episode on her bi-weekly reality webshow.

Her boyfriend, Mike Sayre, 28, popped the question at a movie screening last Saturday and TV production company Munkysuperstar Pictures was there to film the event.

Xiaxue a.k.a Wendy Cheng, 25, and Mr Sayre, an engineer, have been dating for more than three years. Although they had been discussing wedding plans for about six months, Mr Sayre still managed to surprise her.

Ms Gillian Tan, director of Xiaxue's Guide To Life, which airs on clicknetwork.tv, said: 'We wanted to film the proposal and make it a public event since Wendy loves being in the limelight. Mike is actually quite shy, but he was happy to do it for Wendy.'

Mr Sayre, who is from Dallas, Texas, has been working here for almost three years.

The production house Munkysuperstar Pictures and blog advertising community Nuffnang ensured that Ms Cheng attended a screening of the movie, Couples Retreat, where a friend pushed her to the aisle seat. Then 'an SDU-ad kind of thing started playing, and it went, have you found the person you love', recalled Ms Cheng.

At the end of the video came a shot of Mr Sayre sitting on a bench with his back to the camera, before he turned around and said, 'I know I have.'

With that, he appeared in the cinema, got down on one knee and pulled out a heart-shaped diamond ring with 37 smaller surrounding diamonds that had been picked out by Ms Cheng herself.

'He knows that I am very anal about my ring design, so he had asked me to go and pick it out myself,' said Ms Cheng, who is 'excited and nervous' about her upcoming nuptials.

They will register the marriage on March 14, the fourth anniversary of the day they got together.

When asked how much the ring cost, Mr Sayre said with a laugh: 'It was expensive enough!'

The couple first met online about four years ago, when Mr Sayre came across her blog and sent her an e-mail with a picture of himself.

They appear to be a classic case of opposites attract. Ms Cheng describes Mr Sayre as 'very geeky and quiet', while he loves her 'general attitude of no-nonsense, her directness and honesty'.

The episode of the proposal will air this week.
