Soap opera actress Sheila Marcia, 20, was released from prison Tuesday after doing her time at Pondok Bambu prison in East Jakarta for drug possession.
Sheila’s mother Maria Cecilia Joseph and her lawyer Mudarwan Yusuf accompanied her during her release. Maria said she could not hide her happiness as her daughter was finally free.
After she stepped out of the prison gate, Sheila, who is eight months pregnant, exclaimed: “Thank you lord Jesus for my release today”.
Sheila said she would focus on her child.
“I don’t know what I am going to do yet. I want to focus on my child, especially since it’s almost time for me to give birth. I haven’t thought about work. I haven’t thought about other things. What’s important is I can now breath fresh air. I want to clear my mind first,” she said as quoted by kapanlagi.com.
Sheila was arrested in August 2008 for possessing 0.486 grams of crystal methamphetamine while at the Golden Sky condominium. The North Jakarta District Court gave her a one-year prison sentence.
Sheila was released in March 2009 after the Jakarta High Court granted her leave to appeal against her sentence, but returned to serve her time after the Supreme Court annulled the ruling.
Sheila starred in the film Hantu Jeruk Purut (The Ghost from Jeruk Purut cemetery ).
