Say no to bushy eyebrows
by Karen Tee & Ian Lee

Q I have a thin, oval face and I want to have my brows shaped. I am afraid it will be painful. Can you recommend a cheap and good place for eyebrow-shaping or would you recommend DIY?

A The three main ways to shape your brows are threading, tweezing and waxing.
Although none are pain-free procedures, they are all quite bearable.

I find waxing to be the least torturous as it is over in a matter of seconds once the brow therapist rips off the wax strips.

Threading should take less than 10 minutes and can be quite painless if your therapist is well-trained. However, finding the right therapist is a matter of trial and error.

Tweezing may take more than 10minutes as each strand of hair is plucked out individually. However, with regular tweezing, you will grow accustomed to the sensation.

Do not attempt to shape your own brows because balancing your brow shapes can get tricky, especially when you are a novice.

Instead, get them professionally done and maintain the results by tweezing stray brow hairs when they start growing out.

Janet Lim, the public relations manager of the Spa Esprit Group – which owns brow-grooming chain Browhaus and waxing chain Strip – recommends that you request “a very gentle arch” as a pronounced arch will elongate your face.

Threading costs $15 and tweezing costs $18 at Browhaus. You can get your brows waxed at Strip for $18 or Benefit’s Brow Bar for $22.

If you are a first-time customer to Browhaus or Strip, stop by their new outlets at Ion Orchard for a 50 per cent discount on any a la carte treatment, including brow-shaping services.

This offer is valid till June 30 and does not apply to certain services like lash extensions and lash perming.
