Will Foyce marry mystery man?
by Charlene Chua

SINGER-ACTRESS Foyce Le – best known as one of the women in the Jack Neo scandal – is making headlines again.

Two weeks ago, she said on her Facebook page that she maybe getting married. But since then, in interviews with The New Paper and the Chinese press, she has been strangely secretive about the man she claims wants to marry her.

And more oddly, the 29-year-old said they had not been a couple, and had been going out for just a month.

All she would say was: “I won’t call him my boyfriend because we’ve never been together. He’s a decisive man who has told me that he wants to marry me.”

Le said she will accept his marriage proposal, which she expects on her birthday tomorrow. But later she also said she was “confused”.

So who is this man?

Le declined to tell us, though she revealed that his name starts with an Aand that he is 30 years old. When we asked to interview him, she agreed and took out her mobile
phone to call him, but claimed that he didn’t pick up her call.

Le then said she would arrange an interview with him the next day, but later cancelled it. When asked why, she said cryptically: “I’m feeling really confused right now. I don’t want to meet  him. He keeps calling me and I’m avoiding his
calls because I don’t want to be pressured into giving a tentative answer to his proposal now.”

Some of Le’s friends we spoke to say they have never met the man. According to Le, he is an oil tycoon’s son who owns a high-end jewellery store on Orchard Road. She added that he owns three houses on Newton Road and has as many cars.

Le had no qualms admitting that his wealth and “high social status” had attracted her. She described him as 1.73m tall, clean-shaven, with a “single eyelid, bad boy” look.

Le claimed that when they got to know each other three years ago through a mutual friend, he offered her a job as personal relations manager for his jewellery store.

“He said I was a capable and independent lady and I should do greater things (instead of being an artiste). He offered me a high salary. But I turned him down as my passion was in entertainment. My impression of him was that he was sincere.”

Lost touch

Le said she subsequently lost touch with Mr A, until the Jack Neo scandal broke this year. Le made the headlines when she claimed that the local director had made advances on her six years ago when she was signed with his artiste management company.

This was soon after news broke that Neo had cheated on his wife with 22-year-old model Wendy Chong.

In the middle of the saga, Le said Mr A found her on Facebook and sent her a message.

“When the scandal broke, I was crying all the time and in pretty bad shape. I was very touched when he took the initiative to ask me if I was okay. We had a good chat on Facebook. That made me feel good.”

She said they started having meals together a month ago, and two weeks ago he told her he was going to propose to her on her birthday. That is tomorrow, when Le turns 30.

So why would she consider marrying someone she has been seeing for only about a month? Said Le: “I feel time is not a factor if you’re sure that the person is a good person.

“I’m not the type who has to know someone extremely well before we get together. Like I know Mr A has a Master’s degree, but I don’t know in what subject. We can get to know each other after marriage.”

Le claimed that Mr A is so smitten with her that when he proposes tomorrow, it will be with a rare pink diamond ring.

She said he has also asked her to choose her preferred location for their marital home. Said Le: “I want to live in Orchard. A landed property or condominium. A house with a nice view would be ideal.”

Quitting showbiz?

Le added that Mr A has indicated he would prefer that she quit showbiz after they are married.

“Sometimes I get very tired of being in the entertainment industry. I felt like a clown during the Jack Neo saga. Everyone was just pointing at me and gossiping about me,” she said.

“I definitely would enjoy being a tai-tai (lady of leisure). Yes, Mr A is very suited for me. We enjoy the same kind of lifestyle.” She told The New Paper last night that she had recently met his parents for the first time.

Le admitted that in the past, many boyfriends dumped her because she was “too princess- like”. This made it tough for her to find a marriage partner.

She told The New Paper that she has had five boyfriends, all actors or singers. Le said she even turned to local dating agencies like The Dating Loft in January last year for help. But she said she didn’t fancy the men shortlisted for her.

She admitted that she was two hours late for one date because she was caught up at work. The man left the restaurant and they never met.

“I expect my boyfriend to wait for me and pick me up from work often. Perhaps this is what guys mean when they complain that I’m too ‘princess-like’. I also like to dress up and be wined and dined at nice places.”

Le also compared Mr A to an ex who had once taken her to a Geylang coffee shop for frog porridge. She insisted that Mr A is “not the type to take me to a coffee shop for a meal”, one of the qualities that attracted her to him.

So tomorrow, when Mr A goes on bended knee, will Le immediately say “I do”?

Yes, if everything goes “as planned”, she said. She added: “I’m the motherly sort and I really want to have children.”

“I know a lot of people will say that I’m a gold-digger but I don’t care. I have very high expectations of my partner. Let’s just say I have wanted to get married for a very long time.”
