SWAGger your man
by Teo Wee Teck

WHO DOESN’T want to be a WAG? It’s a lifestyle of parties, photo ops and shopping, seen from behind a pair of oversized designer sunglasses.

The boys can idolise their football stars and the girls have the footballer’s wife or girlfriend.

WAGs (wives and girlfriends) are young women - some of them pop stars, beauty queens, TV presenters - who rule the fashion field as much as their men rule the football field.

The current queen WAG is singer Cheryl Cole, although her WAG status is shaky.
Her divorce from England footballer Ashley Cole may make the 27-year-old a former WAG. But once a WAG, always a WAG.

Then, there is the evergreen WAG Coleen Rooney, 24, wife of Wayne. She is a TV presenter and columnist, targetted by the tabloids.

And who doesn’t talk about the underweight wonder that is Victoria Beckham, 36?
She is a singer and fashion icon and is fabulously wealthy. And oh, she is married to one of the world’s biggest sports names, David Beckham.

The term WAG was coined by the British media to describe the partners of its national footballers, but it has has gone international. Now, any woman seen on the arm of a sports star is a WAG.

WAGs are under the media glare as much as their partners. England manager Fabio Capello has banned them from staying with his boys, saving South Africa from a WAG invasion.

But who is to say you can’t have a WAG moment in Singapore?

While your boyfriend or husband is staying up all night catching the matches, go out and hit the clubs with the other WAGs and make them wonder.

If the boys are gathered at a coffee shop to catch the match, gather the girls and head for a nice 24-hour restaurant and spend a bomb.

The boys want to spend their earnings on an autographed football? The Great Singapore Sale has just started, along with sales at designer boutiques such as Prada and YSL, so spend as much as they do.

Game on, ladies. And make it glamourous!

>>Girls, unleash your inner WAG
