Amanda Heng turns heads every time she puts on the iconic batik sarong kebaya worn by Singapore Airlines hostesses. But it's not on account of her shapely figure.

Far from it, the 61-year-old with the head full of silver hair is turning heads for another reason.

One of Singapore's most renowned contemporary female artists, the cultural medallion winner is well known for using her art to make a statement.

Her most famous and ongoing series is the 2-year-old Singirl in which she donned the famous SQ girl uniform in a veiled critique on identity and gender politics.
