Dethroned beauty queen Ris Low is back, this time on the big screen, playing a mother out to avenge her child who was murdered in local slasher flick Justice Devil.
The 23-year-old ex-Miss Singapore World, who attracted flak for her weight gain when the movie's trailer was released last week, spoke to RazorTV and defended her chubbier figure.
Forget 'bigini' and 'leopard preenz', Ris Low is back, this time in a tank top and jeans, wielding an axe.
The dethroned beauty queen is set to make her big screen debut in local slasher flick, Justice Devil.
The 23-year-old plays a mother out to avenge the murder of her child in the Mandarin movie.
Helmed by first-time director Harva Raj, the privately-funded film has yet to secure a distributor for commercial release in Singapore.
Ris was stripped of her Miss Singapore World crown in 2009, after it was found out that she was convicted of credit card fraud.
So what attracted her to this role? "It was the emotions, and the twist and turn of the story. I kind of liked this movie's plot, and I thought it would be good for me to try out something new, so I just gave it a go."
Scenes of torture, gore and rape were depicted in the movie's trailer, released a week ago.
Was it hard for Low to shoot the sex scenes in the movie?
"That was pretty hard, because I'm insecure about my own body."
"And I couldn't stop giggling. So I had to depend on the other actor's expression to bring out the reaction in me."
Ris's stockier figure now is a far cry from her pageant days. The 1.72m-tall former beauty queen who was voted 56th sexiest woman by FHM magazine readers in 2010, says her heaviest weight ever recorded was 65kg.
"Who doesn't want to look good, who doesn't want to be slim? But besides being slim you got to be healthy. If being slim makes you really unhealthy and you are like going on a low-carb diet, low protein diet and you lack a lot of nutrients and minerals, then what's the point? I'll rather be healthy, and beautiful and radiant, from inside out."
Her co-stars in the movie gave her maiden acting effort a thumbs up.

Yeah Lor, at least she 'knows' how to Create opportunity for herself for survival. Clap clap clap;) anyway, that is her body, she should have the 'right' to do whatever she wants n likes to it.:) likewise, people do have a choice to like her or not.
I know of an able bodied female in her 30s, overseas graduate, and living off her mother who is in her late 50s. Apparently, this young female is unemployed and has been unemployed since she graduated 7 years ago! She even asked her mother if she would be provided a maid should her mother passed on:eek: my head literally spun at that point in time! This is truly disgraceful in any sense.
her openness is also commendable.
but she really have to exercise tremendously and cut down food intake drastically.
obesity is bad for health.
She is creating opportunity and ad for herself. Put on weight and them losing them. Strawberry jie jie is right. Any weight management centre in need of a spoke person should sign her up. Win-win.
Rather than drowning herself in self pity, she faces the numerous adversities with a smile.
Being just 23, losing weight for her is not an issue. So long as she puts her mind into it, I am quite sure she could see herself 3kg to 5kg lighter within 5 months.
Give her chance leh, she does no one any harm;)
