Moroccan designer Bouchra Jarrar talks about her first Haute Couture collection. Bouchra Jarrar: It’s a fashion proposition- it’s a vision. It’s the vision of a girl or a woman- a proposition for all women in general. The pieces are created by industrial machines and by hand. Every item is finished by hand- all the contours and the bias are done by hand and that is how I create the silhouette. I mainly work on volume and I particularly wanted to create a very concentrated, very focused collection, using very few materials and working just with black and ivory. This was a very spontaneous collection. I have grown up surrounded by fashion and I love it- the fashion industry, the clothes industry. I love studios, I love dress-makers and this exercise, which was very personal to me, allowed me to do lots of different things and gave me a greater understanding of women in general: it forced me not simply to stereotype women with a willowy, pretty silhouette, which I do love, but to also think of other forms and silhouettes.
