The next time life in the fast lane gets just that little bit overwhelming, get on the road to detox and better-looking skin with this gem of a stay-cation without the hassle of travelling.
A recent collaboration by professional skincare Dermalogica and The Retreat Spa at the Changi Village Hotel amps up the spa's 2-day-1-night Village Retreat, as Dermalogica products are used to complement the spa's treatments, to give your skin optimal health.
After checking into your room, your itinerary begins with your therapist gaining a better understanding of your state of health and face-mapping to determine the most suitable products for your skin's condition.
Face-mapping, where the facial landscape is divided into fourteen zones and examined thoroughly through touch and sight, allows your therapist to recommend the most suitable Dermalogica products for your skin. At the same time, get prepared to be ridiculously pampered during your stay there as your skin regains its best and your spirits gets lifted.
The first day of treatments are designed to destress and relax you, while the second day's session allows your body to be detoxed.
Day One's offerings include the spa's Signature Body Massage, jacuzzi, aromatherapy 'hot-stamping' and a Skin Oxygenating Facial. The Body Massage is a mixture of massage techniques designed to leave you relaxed. It's three hours of spa bliss as you tune out the world as you relax in the Spa's luxury suite with its own jacuzzi pool, outdoor shower and a scenic view of the Changi beach. Your day ends with dinner at the hotel's Saltwater Cafe.
The second day allows you to choose to do a morning walk along the Changi boardwalk, or just veg out and enjoy the comforts of your hotel room as you wait to have breakfast and indulge in the rest of your Dermalogica Village Retreat. Treatment at the spa begins with a dry brush, followed by a hydro massage and detox seaweed wrap. Finally, to unbunch any remaining knots left in your muscles, a traditional Swedish massage awaits you at the end.
While this retreat does not aim to advise you on your medical conditions, I found myself a little more enlightened about my own physical condition, other than coming away at the end of the retreat feeling thoroughly refreshed.
For instance, my therapist, who was the same one throughout both days, could tell me that my back was a little crooked after an initial inspection before beginning my treatment. She told me it could be a result of long hours sitting in the wrong position and suggested it can be corrected if I watched my posture. I thought this was useful and reminded myself to be more careful of how I held myself.
She also checked with me if I had any operations on my back previously before beginning the massage, which reassured me that she would be careful when working on me. I also found the face-mapping session to be very informative. I found out that I suffered from sensitive skin and pigmentation.
The therapist made sure to use Dermalogica products that were suited for me during the facial and even offered some ideas on how to remove my pigmentation and address my
sensitive skin woes.
Beverages offered during the course of the two days at the spa were also meant to contribute to your sense of well-being. Ginger tea is offered before you begin as it can boost your blood circulation and assist in detoxifying your bodily system, while alkaline water is provided in your hotel room and during the course of your treatments for the benefits it has to health conditions, which include maintaining your ideal body weight and neutralising free radicals in the body.
The refreshing continues in your hotel room too, as air sterilizers from MedKlinn are installed to remove dust and air pollutants and infuse the air with negative ions.
Your blood pressure is also measured before each session to ensure you are suited to undergo the treatments.
The Dermalogica Village Retreat costs S$668 for a single person, and S$1,200 for twin sharing. It includes a one-night stay at the Changi Village Hotel, spa treatments and two meals (dinner and breakfast).
