Blog picks

Talk about harnessing the power of the new media.

To get people talking about the launch of Majolica Majorca in Singapore, nine bloggers here were picked to be local brand ambassadors.

These girls, aged 18 to 25, were chosen based on their looks as well as their popularity in the blogosphere.

'We decided to try out this new marketing technique as blog-surfing is very popular in Singapore,' said Jerraine Lim, marketing executive of Majolica Majorca.

'We chose beauty junkies who embody the Majolica Majorca look - kawaii with big eyes - and who like experimenting with products and colours.'

As brand ambassadors, the girls are paid in kind: They are given new products to try and get to pick a stash of their favourite Majolica Majorca products every three months.

In exchange, they are asked to blog about their experiences with the products at least twice a month till their contract expires in December.

The Neo Automatic Liner (Photo 3), $20.90, a liquid eyeliner, is my favourite because of its smooth texture and brush, which makes it extremely easy to apply.

The twist mechanism at the top helps to control the amount of product.

With this, you can draw either a thin and precise line or achieve a thicker, smoky eye look.

Make-up tip, please.

One trick I use is to pull my eyelid towards my ear while applying the eyeliner. This way, I'm able to see the top of my lash line clearly so I can draw a precise line easily.

The Majolook Trick On (Photo 5), $24.50, which is an eyeshadow palette with four powdered eyeshadows - one highlighting shade, one shading colour, one eyeliner shade and a special Trick On shimmery powder. Also, this palette can be used to create two looks - a subtle day look or a dramatic night one. Simply layer on the eyeshadows for greater intensity.

Make-up tip, please.

Applying make-up with fingers works best as I can control how much product I want on my eyelids. The Trick On shade works wonders as a highlighter on my brow bone and also brightens up the inner corner of my eyes.

The Lash Beautifying Mascara (Photo 7), $25.90, as it adds volume and length to my lashes with a few quick strokes.

Make-up tip, please.

When I take the applicator out of the tube, I will scrape the comb along the sides first to remove excess mascara so that it won't clump my lashes.

What I like about the comb is that you don't have to apply too many coats of mascara as the teeth hold more product and coat my lashes evenly. You need at most two coats.

The Majolumina glitter powder puff (Photo 9), $25.90, because the packaging is unique and I love the furry puff. It contains glitter powder within the puff, which you can apply to your face and body.

Make-up tip, please.

I thought at first that the powder puff could be used only on the body, but make-up artist Marcus AC used it on my cheeks as well. It made me realise you can also use this puff on the face for a natural-looking glow.
