Power mum
by Gregory Loo

YOU can't quite blame Jamie Yeo - a self-confessed Apple fan - for dropping a cool $350 on the Clarisonic Plus about a year ago.

Sure, it cost a pretty penny for a skincare brush.

But the sonic technology skin-cleansing system has some impressive-sounding tech behind it.

And when the Power98 DJ bought her set, she chose a pink one, as part of the price went to Breast Cancer Awareness.

Moreover, the 35-year-old shares the device with a surprise user - hubby Thorsten Nolte, with whom she runs marketing firm Upfront Media.

"It's good," Yeo told The New Paper. "After you use it, your skin is really smooth.

With a little bit of face cream, she uses this gadget - which has three speed settings - to clear out the dirt and oil from her pores.

She added that it helps her save money that would have been spent on other facial treatments.

"This does the same thing as the metal plates used at the dermatologist, where you can pay about $100 a facial and they tell you to do it once a month," she said.

"With this, you save money - it cost $350, you can do it yourself twice a week and I feel that it does work."

1. MacBook Air

Yeo admits that she was rather taken by the company's penchant for making something that provides both form and function.

She said: "It doesn't take a rocket scientist to use an Apple and there's something about using something that's beautiful. I like well-designed things."

While she doesn't really use her MacBook Air for leisure, its portability does help Yeo a great deal as a working mother. She has a daughter, Alysia, who is a year old.

"Time is very precious, especially once you're a mother, because you just want to get everything done and spend time with your child.

"I can't go missing when clients are trying to get in touch. So sometimes, I'll just have my laptop and sit in the corner with all her toys, playing with her and sending e-mails at the same time."

2. iPhone 4S

Aside from its regular functions, Yeo's iPhone 4S also serves as her running companion.

While she uses MapMyRun to plot her progress each session, Yeo turns to the Power98FM app - which Upfront Media developed - for her exercise tunes.

She said: "MapMyRun is really cool. It uses GPS to tell you how far and fast you are going.

"You really do need music to run because it does inspire me to go farther.

"I do like radio and the best thing about it is that you get a mix of all the songs without needing to go in and select a list - it's just easier."

3. iPad

The new iPad comes in especially handy when Yeo needs to keep Alysia occupied - especially in the car.

With a few handy purchases from iTunes, she can strap her tablet to the back of her car seat and turn it into a makeshift TV set for the toddler.

Alysia also likes interactive storybook apps like Paddington Bear and The Three Little Pigs And The Secrets Of A Popup Book.

Yeo said: "Alysia loves stuff like that and every page has an interaction so it definitely keeps her busy.

"It's so amazing - I wish I were a kid now!"
