Singapore - This year's Fashion Week will see more Asian designers than before.
Set to return next month, it will also be a bigger event than those in previous years, combining the Men's Fashion Week and Women's Fashion Week into an 11-day event, where more than 30 presentations from famous regional and international designers are slated to be showcased.
Besides international names, such as Pierre Balmain (France), Anne Fontaine (France), Porsche Design (Germany) and MCM (Germany), highly acclaimed Asian designers who will showcase here include Junko Koshino and Yumi Katsura of Japan, Michael Cinco of the Philippines and Guo Pei of China.
These designers will be creating a capsule collection on top of their collections made exclusively for the festival.
To be held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center from Oct 9 to Oct 19 and organised by Fide Fashion Weeks, this year's Fashion Week will include nine featured shows from labels available at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, nine ready-to-wear shows, seven Asian couture shows and three French haute couture shows.
"We've scoured the Internet in search of the most prominent couture designers, who are not only prolific in their own countries, but are also commercially viable," said Mr Frank Cintamani, chairman and founder of Fide Fashion Weeks.
But one thing that's different this year is that up-and-coming home-grown designers will not be featured at the event.
"Our niche resides in bringing the biggest, most established names in the fashion industry to the show," Mr Cintamani said. "That's how we distinguish ourselves from other fashion shows that have gained a foothold in the industry."
Last year, the festival showcased the designs of home-grown brands, such as Reckless Ericka. This year, only couture bridal designer Frederick Lee's bespoke works will be presented.
Locally renowned blogshop Love Bonito will be involved in a collaboration with French designer Julien Fournie, which will be showcased on Oct 18.
Apart from the designers, prominent fashion editors, international A-list celebrities and personalities are expected to turn up.
