MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica - Singaporean Ms Jody Liu, 23, took home the Miss Global International 2013 crown on Saturday, Sep 28.
According to the organiser of the Miss Singapore Global competition which Ms Liu won, this is the first time a Singaporean has taken the top prize in an international pageant.
The finals was held at the Sunset Beach Resort, Spa and Waterpark in Montego Bay, where Ms Liu competed against 31 other contestants from all over the world.
Ms Liu also took home the 'Most Aware' award. The first and second runners-up were Miss Uganda, Sylvia Namutebi, and Miss Bahamas, Lashanda Wildgoose.
Championing the green movement, Ms Liu said the legacy she wants to leave for future generations was one that emphasises the importance of the environment and the impact of global warming.
"I will use this title to carry out my mission to educate people, not only about environmental issues, but also to inspire them to inculcate these habits into everyday life. We only have one earth," she stated after winning the crown.
"The reason I joined Miss Global is because it is a different pageant. It places a heavy emphasis on charity and serving the community. So when I heard about it, I wanted to do that. I felt it was a good platform for me," she explained.
"To me, it is not about winning the crown itself. To me, it is about sharing this experience with everyone and if I could win this crown like I say, I want to use this crown to carry out my life's mission."
