YOU could attribute the glow on Jaymee Ong’s face to nuptial bliss – or her daily morning workout.
The 29-year-old TV host and actress, who hosts eBuzz on AXN (StarHub Ch 19), recently tied the knot with electrical engineer Matthew Heath, also 29, and held their wedding dinner at Koh Samui just last month.
And while Ong’s schedule changes each day depending on the projects she’s working on, a daily workout remains a must for this fitness buff.
Whenever she’s not at a film or photo shoot, it’s likely that the Kosmic Film Artiste can be found exercising – be it instructing Vinyasa yoga at True Fitness, practising on her own, or running.
The toned muscles on the sun-kissed Chinese-Australian babe, who stands 1.66m tall and weighs 46kg, say it all. my paper finds out more about her fitness routine and her health concerns.
What’s a normal day for you like?
I wake up at 6.30am and have wholegrain cereal with milk or whole-wheat toast and some fruit for breakfast before I start the day with yoga, a run outside or a workout at the gym.
I answer all my e-mail messages by noon, then I go to work. You can usually find me at a photo shoot or teaching yoga. I’m usually back home in time to cook dinner for myself and my husband. I’m in bed by 10pm.
How do you balance work and play?
I make it a point to factor in some “me” time. I love having friends over. However, I do have a quieter side. I love reading, or watching endless DVDs. How often do you work out and why? I run or go to the gym every day and do light weights as it helps build bone density.
I’ve been practising yoga for 11 years now and it’s part of my daily life. I love it – it makes me feel better spiritually, emotionally and physically.
Why is building bone density a concern of yours?
I’ve seen, at first hand, what happens when bones start to degenerate. My grandma suffered from osteoporosis before she passed away in 1996 at the age of 82.
She was very active and practised taiji but, back in her day, people weren’t educated on bone health.
She didn’t take specific action to strengthen her bones. She was a tiny woman – standing at only 1.5m – and became very frail after she was diagnosed with osteoporosis.
As a result, when I was growing up, my Mum made me drink milk as it includes calcium.
What’s in your diet?
I eat a lot of fresh, organic veggies like pumpkin and broccoli.
My husband and I also eat lots of fish, chicken and the occasional steak. I normally steam my vegetables and bake or grill my meats. I eat lots of dairy products too, such as yogurt, and I enjoy cheese with wine.
While I indulge in my favourite french fries once a week, I don’t feel guilty about it.
