School of frock

Distinction

A: Megan Fox

Premiere of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Mexico City

Dress: Zuhair Murad

Shoes: Jimmy Choo

The leggy US actress continues to live up to her foxy name while promoting her comeback flick. She also reminds us why there's only one true Transformers babe. (Sorry, Rosie and Nicola!) Fox bests the rest this week by keeping it predictably short and sexy in this eye-catching embroidered long-sleeve mini-dress with silver and slate-blue beading.

A-: Jessica Alba

Press line for Sin City: A Dame To Kill For at the 2014 Comic-Con International Convention in San Diego

Top: Tanya Taylor

Skirt: Zimmermann

Shoes: Kotur

This ensemble could've been a hot mess, but the tanned and toned US actress has the hot bod and femme fatale attitude to pull off the flashy batik print mesh-panel midi skirt and even flashier statement sandals. Loving the edgy faux undercut (read: side-braided hairdo) too.

Pass

B: Zoe Saldana

Premiere of Guardians Of The Galaxy in London

Gown: Valentino

What an improvement. The US actress finally redeems her earlier promo tour faux pas with a floaty, feminine blue chiffon gown, which - even if it has monkeys printed all over it - flatters her growing bump.

B-: Nina-Dobrev

Press line for Let's Be Cops at the 2014 Comic-Con International Convention in San Diego

Top and skirt: J Mendel

Shoes: Giorgio Armani

There's no better place to dress like a schoolgirl than Comic-Con, right? The Canadian starlet obviously got the memo, looking cute in a pleated purple fit-and-flare leather skirt, and sheer white tuxedo-style blouse with a black necktie.

Barely pass

C: Maisie Williams

Entertainment Weekly's Annual Comic-Con Celebration in San Diego

Dress: Ryan Jude Novelline

Shoes: Ted Baker

Williams aka Arya Stark from Game Of Thrones, takes Comic-Con very literally. Which explains her wacky frock made out of recycled graphic novel pages. Only problem is, the English actress now reminds me of a younger, bonkers version of Helena Bonham Carter.

C-: Jada Pinkett Smith

Press line for Gotham at the 2014 Comic-Con International Convention in San Diego

Skirt: Cushine et Ochs

Shoes: Manolo Blahnik

I'm not sure which is scarier - the baseball bat she's brandishing or the fact that the attention-seeking 42-year-old US actress and mum of two thinking she can get away with wearing a severely slashed pencil skirt alongside a sports bra.

D: Selena Gomez

Premiere of Behaving Badly in Los Angeles

Top: Zimmermann

Shoes: Barbara Bui

Behaving badly? More like dressing badly, what with the teeny-tiny snakeskin print halterneck crop top from the 90s. Why US actress-singer Gomez turned up as a skanky character from Jersey Shore is almost as questionable as her on-off boyfriend Justin Bieber's antics.

D: Cate Blanchett

Press line for The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies at the 2014 Comic-Con International Convention in San Diego

Dress: Fausto Puglisi

Shoes: Roger Vivier

Comic-Con may be a nerd convention, but I still expect way more from the Australian thespian and style queen than this disappointing, dowdy pink and white diner waitress uniform. I doubt even the geeks approve.

Fail

F: Lady Gaga

Cheek To Cheek taping in New York City

Gown: Alon Livne

Gaga's latest failed fashion fad to go with the jazz phase of her career essentially boils down to impersonating an Elizabeth Taylor-idolising tai tai from the 80s. The loosely-draped black silk kaftan swallows the US pop star, the make-up is ghastly and she's looking more like a drag queen than ever before.
