Lohan's designs mauled by critics

Paris - Actress Lindsay Lohan, 23, lived up to her reputation as Hollywood's party girl with a debut collection for Parisian fashion house Emanuel Ungaro on Sunday, showing super-short pink dresses and blazers worn over bare skin.

She sparked a paparazzi frenzy at the Louvre museum where the show was held, creating exactly the kind of buzz executives at Ungaro had been hoping for.

Ungaro's president Mounir Moufarrige had hired her three weeks ago as 'artistic adviser' to Spanish designer Estrella Archs to revive the ageing brand.

Fashion critics, however, looked aghast at Lohan's line of bra tops and stripper-inspired nipple pasties. 'We both love fashion, the different aspects, different generations, different styles from around the world, we like to mix everything up,' the actress told reporters after the show in a joint interview with Archs.

The thigh-skimming dresses in peach, hot pink and white seemed designed for a Malibu Beach party, while sparkling nipple pasties flashing from underneath loose blazers were a reminder of Lohan's own occasional wardrobe mishaps.

'It's not good to show your nipples so they should be covered,' she said, referring to the heart-shaped pasties.

But her appearance was also a reminder of the risks faced by luxury brands who tie their image to that of a celebrity. When reporters asked her about her love of scandal, she snapped: 'That's an unnecessary question.'

Hearts printed on skirts and dresses, blazers with glittering lapels, ruffled dresses and leggings mirrored her personal style, as captured by thousands of tabloid pictures.

'The best that can be said is that they tried,' wrote Hilary Alexander of The Daily Telegraph about the hasty design job. The show 'may go down in history as the final gasp of celebrity madness', Suzy Menkes of the New York Times said.

'One hemline revealed the curvy derriere that paparazzi might hope to snap in a downtown club - but not what you would expect on a sophisticated catwalk.'

The Guardian's Jess Cartner-Morley said the strain of the ill-received show took its toll on Lohan, who burst into tears halfway through her catwalk turn.

'As Lohan found herself overcome with emotion in front of the photographers, Archs could be seen gripping her hand and guiding her firmly backstage,' she wrote.

This is just another joke!

I just do not know just what's on Ungaro's president Mounir Moufarrige's mind when he hired this Lohan character to be the company'e Artistic Adviser. Just what credentials does this controversial actress have? Or what did Moufarrige see in her? Nipple pasties?

Unbelievably confounding.
