A touch of colour, a slick of mascara and some expert wielding of your eyeliner can really help to 'open' up your eyes instantly. With the help of L'Oreal Paris, we provide these eye make-up tips to help those gals who need some pointers on what to do with their make-up kit.
Play with shades
Colour is the easiest to use when you want your peepers to be pretty.
How
Apply colour from the lightest shade to the darkest towards the lashline in a gradation effect. Use the lightest shade as a base, apply all over your eye socket towards the brow bone, then blend well with another darker shade as you apply the darker shade towards your lashline. if you aren't adventurous in trying out contrasting shades, stick to colours in the same family colour.
Tip
Dot some of the highlighter shade in the corner of the eye just below the eyebrow and finish with just a touch in the middle of the eye to make them appear bigger.
Try
L'Oreal Paris Expert Eyes Palette Eyeshadow (S$19.90). There are four palettes - Passionate Cobalt, Sophisticated Cocoa, Romantic Carmin and Alluring Stellar to choose from.
Accentuate eyes with eye liner
Eye liners help to give eyes definition and your gaze an intensity.
How
Hold the skin of your upper lid taut, apply the liner from the middle of the eye to the corner of the eye. The outer edge of the line should be thicker than the inside. If using with colours, remember to apply your eye colours first, before your eye liner. Then blend your eye liner into your eye colour for a softer, more natural look.
Tip
To really open up your eyes, make the line 3-4 mm longest and upwards at the end of the eye corner.
Try
L'Oreal Paris Superliner Gel Liner ($21.90), a smudgeproof gel liner that gives the definition of a liquid liner, but wears easily like a pencil liner.
Flutter those lashes
Mascaras can help to volumise, lengthen or even curl lashes. It is the finishing touch to make your eyes charming.
How
Place the brush very close to the roots and pull the brush up, in a zigzag movement towards the tips of your lashes. Don't pump your brush into the mascara, as that will introduce air into the bottle and dry your mascara. Remember to apply mascara to the bottom lashes as well.
Tip
Apply at least two coats for a fuller look. Retouch the centre after your mascara dries, if you need an even stronger volumising effect.
