DON’T YOU JUST HATE THE fact that the more distressed a pair of jeans look like, the more expensive it becomes?
The acid-wash look was the trend in denim jeans in Spring/Summer of 2009, very reminiscent of the ’80s. The difference, however, was in the silhouette: the new jeans were more slim and very streamlined, making the acid-wash look neat and chic.
In fashion runways of Spring/Summer 2010, the look has been revived. But this time, the wash has not only been adapted only on the common indigo pants, but on fabrics with more color. The tie-dye effect is perfect for the summer!
Embrace the acid-wash look by making it the focal point of your outfit. Because it looks very busy, just pair it with a simple tee, flip-flops or even pumps. Now, you’re good to go!
Creating the acid-wash finish is easy and inexpensive. Try it on your old jeans, jacket, vest, even your LBD!
Materials needed:
1. Household bleach
2. Gloves
3. Spray bottle & water
4. Old jeans/denim jacket/vest or whatever denim you can find
Wet your favorite garment and ring out excess water.
Using the spray bottle, spritz on bleach (ratio is 1:1, bleach:water) on the areas where you want to create the acid-wash look. Spritz it on the sides, hem or even the whole jeans. You can also use an old toothbrush to create long acid strokes. Splotch with an old towel occasionally to remove excess water. It’s better to leave patches of the original color showing, to add depth and character to your denims.
Leave it for a while or until you achieve your desired color. I left it folded and wrinkled, for added texture.
Rinse your denims with running water and fabric soap, to set it in and prevent it from further lightening.
Hang to dry.
Scrub with an old pumice to create a more vintage acid-wash finish. You’re done! Go flaunt your designer-looking jeans!
