Wear cheongsam to keep CNY tradition alive
by Veronica Minjoot

Chinese New Year used to be a festive time when Chinese women would dress up in their cheongsam.

But this is no longer the norm.

It seems that the traditional dress is becoming less popular among Chinese women here.

Here are some reasons why they should reconsider wearing the cheongsam during the Chinese New Year period:

It is a traditional ethnic dress that befits an ethnic festival. It identifies one with one's ancestors, race and roots.

The style, mandarin collar, buttons, textile and prints are beautiful and uniquely Chinese. There is also a variety of traditional to modern styles, fabrics and colours to choose from.

Wearing it helps keep tradition alive, so this fashion trend should be encouraged among the young.

It is refreshing to see such outfits on Chinese women for at least two days in a year.

Chinese New Year is a festival in which traditional decorations and customs come alive, so why not showcase the outfit for all to admire?
