Viet bride goes missing

KUALA LUMPUR: Instead of being excited at experiencing fatherhood, Goh Ping Ming is faced with the agony of his wife running away for the third time in the span of two weeks.

The 50-year-old fishmonger from Selayang said in the previous incidents, Duong Thi Ngoc Nhieu, 25, hid at the match-making agency’s office where they met.

He managed to locate her after being informed by the agent.

“When I went there, she followed me home,” he said during a press conference at the MCA Public Services and Complaints Depart-ment yesterday.

He is seeking the department’s help to locate Duong, who has been missing since Feb 19.

Goh added that they had argued over Duong’s pregnancy.

“My wife is superstitious in having a baby during the Tiger year as she believes the baby will not survive,” he said.

“I disagreed with her plan to get an abortion because I believe that everything will be all right.”

Asked how he met Duong, Goh said he read about the agency in a newspaper advertisement.

“I went to the agency’s office last January to have a chat with nine women and I chose Duong because she is beautiful,” he said.

Goh added that the agency prepared an agreement, which enabled him to bring Duong home for a seven-day trial to see if he was able to get along with her.

After the trial, they got married on Jan 25.

“I’m happy with our marriage as I truly love my wife,” he said, adding that he used sign language to communicate with Duong as she did not understand Mandarin.

Goh paid RM9,000 as deposit to the agency and refuses to pay the remaining RM4,000 until his wife returns home.

Department head Datuk Michael Chong said they had 21 cases involving runaway foreign wives since 2008, of which 10 involved Vietnamese women.
