The six day plan for men
by Sheela Narayanan

WHEN it comes to the wedding day, your bride is the star and, technically, you are the leading man. But you don’t need that much time to get ready, since most of the work would be done for you. So here is the six-day plan for you (tongue in cheek of course).

Day 1: About this time, your family and your future wife would have organised everything, crossing their Ts and dotting their Is. You are the chauffeur really, running around getting errands done. Ask for a list and take instructions. Be prepared to take some abuse. Stress may have turned that lovely girl you proposed to a year ago into bridezilla breathing atomic fire at you.

For your safety and sanity, be supportive and say “I love you” and “you’re right” all the time. Telling her she is making a mountain out of a mole hill at this stage can be fatal. Then find an excuse to retreat to the pub with the boys.

Day 2: You might want to consider getting in shape, so you don’t look like a slob next to your beautiful bride who has been dieting, exercising and going for facials for the last six months.

Go for a jog or head for the gym for an hour and go slow on the mithais just for a few days.

Day 3: Good hair adds a lot to the groom’s look. Find out if your neighbourhood barber is free to do a bit of nip and tuck on that hair and beard for the sangeet and other parties you will have to attend before the actual wedding. Maybe he can do a facial as well. Stop by at the supermarket to pick up more hair products, underarm deodorant, shavers and shaving cream. Don’t forget the moisturiser.

Day 4: Label your outfits in the closet to make sure you’re wearing the right one for the numerous parties prior to the big day. A post-it on each suit would do the trick for the sangeet, wedding and reception. Or just ask your Mum, she’ll know.

Day 5: More parties. More drinking. You are on the right track.

Day 6: The night before the wedding, take it easy. It’s your day too, so chill out. If the cricket or football is on, have the boys over for a last-minute bachelor party. With plenty of booze of course. It’s your last night as a single man. Enjoy it.
