Skin Blossom

UNABLE to afford organic skincare products in Singapore because they were too expensive, Joey Lam set up Kanga Organics last year with one aim: to offer organic but affordable products to local consumers.

Not only does Kanga Organics seek out only certified products but Ms Lam personally goes through every single ingredient in every product imported against the prohibited and restricted lists of ingredients under Singapore's Health Sciences Authority check list.

One of the labels that she has chosen is the British organic skincare brand Skin Blossom. Certified by the Soil Association that not only guarantees the organic integrity of the products, but also that no ingredients that are harmful to health or the environment are used, Skin Blossom's products are free from toxic chemicals, artificial fragrance and colour, hydrogenated oils, petrochemicals, glycols, DEA, MEA, TEA, and lauryl and laureth sulphates, are biodegradable, and eco-friendly.

That said, like Ren, Skin Blossom also uses the synthetic preservative phenoxyethanol in its products but its founder Cristina Beetham ensures that it is 'used in very small quantities'. There is also some alcohol in their products but all of the alcohol that Skin Blossom uses is plant derived.

For example, the Alcohol Denat that they use to bind their formulas is derived from plants, certified organic, and helps to firm and tone the skin on top of acting as a preservative. Must-try products include the Organic Bloom Gentle Cleansing Milk ($15.90), and the Care and Protect Hang Cream ($16.90) that's perfect for the local climate as it is light and not oily.
