Can I breastfeed if I had a Caesarean?

You can breastfeed within an hour of a caesarean birth.

However, if you have had general anesthetic you may feel groggy and shaky after the operation and you need the help of a nurse to help you up and position the baby properly.

You’ll probably be feeling sore from the procedure and will need pain relief medication for few
days.

A tiny amount of pain relief drugs may enter your breast milk but you should still breastfeed your baby, as getting the baby to latch on and feeding within the first few hours is beneficial to your baby.
