GSS offers in Little India
by Jamuna Sundaraj

Tucked conveniently beside City Square Mall along Serangoon Road, business goes on as usual inside Little India newcomer Joyalukkas' jewellery showroom. But this time there is a sense of excitement in the air.

And one need not look too far for the reason.

Right at the doorstep of the showroom, a gleaming white Toyota Camry (above) greets everyone who passes by.

This is Joyalukkas' grand prize for the winner of its lucky draw and it is all done in the spirit of the Great Singapore Sale (GSS).

Joyalukkas showroom manager Francy P.V. said: "It's the shopping season in Singapore and as we're very new in the local market, we wanted to have our brand name reach everyone. We were waiting for the right time and this is it."

From June 1 to July 22, customers get one lucky draw ticket for every $100 spent at Joyalukkas.

These tickets go into a lucky draw each week and the winner gets a 10g 24k gold bar.

The rest of the tickets are rolled over into a grand lucky draw to be conducted on July 22, and the person holding the winning ticket drives away with the Camry.

A family-owned business, Joyalukkas set up shop in Singapore in April.

With 88 branches worldwide, the company takes pride in offering a diverse variety of gold, diamond and pearl collections.

"Some of our products are difficult to find in the vicinity. And we have brands from Italy, Dubai and Qatar that are also not available in the local market. Many of our customers in Singapore have been coming back to us," added Mr Francy.

Like Joyalukkas, City Square Mall has also opened its doors to the Great Singapore Sale.

And well-known furniture chain Picket & Rail, which has a branch on the third floor of the mall, is having a 30 per cent sale storewide.

This discount applies to its four other outlets islandwide and customers can look forward to furnishing their homes with the brand's American-style and classic furniture and accessories.

If you're looking for a mattress for that new bed, you may want to check out Fantasy Waterbeds' selection at its Toh Guan outlet where all mattresses - including waterbeds and memory foam - are on a 20 per cent discount.

Lim's Art & Living, on B2 of the same mall, is also getting into the GSS mood by offering a 20 per cent discount on regular priced items and 50 per cent off on selected items.

India Saree Emporium in Selegie Road is also cashing in on the GSS momentum.

The store's consultant Susila Ramasamy admits many Little India retailers are not aware of the GSS but adds that the sari outlet is keen to be part of it and has a 20 per cent discount storewide with selected items going at almost half price.
