Stand firm against salon sales pitch

I EMPATHISE with Ms Stephanie Lau on her ordeal at a beauty salon where she was forced to pay for services she did not want  (my paper, March 24).

As the saying goes, there is no free lunch. I have avoided beauty salons that try to make me buy packages that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. I would rather walk into another salon, pay for a one-time facial and walk out hassle free.

Consumers should be clear about what they need and what they do not need, and stand firm when being persuaded by salon or gym salesmen to buy expensive packages.

Ms Kong Suet Mui

I have the same problem New York Skin. I told them I wanted a facial and enquire the price but was told its FREE due to their Grand Opening. When I told them I prefer to paid treatment for my skin problem and not just trial facial. They insists it's free. I was at the salon, they still insist it's FREE but got to paid a S$300 deposit which I rejected. And the consultant told me she will talk to her manager to waive the deposit which I told her I am not interested any more.
