Beauty Secrets: Wu Yi Lin
by Cheryl Mui

Wu Yi Lin, 37

With more than 22 years as a professional hairdresser, Taiwan's Wu Yi Lin has made a name for herself by winning prestigious awards and styling celebrities such as Taiwanese pop singer A-Mei and Hollywood actress Mischa Barton.

She is the resident hairdresser on the Taiwanese variety show Lady's First, and has also published two books about hairdressing.

She was recently in town for L'Oreal Professionnel's launch of its new hair colourant Majirel Cool Cover.

What is the one product you would not step out of the house without?

My hair-curling tongs are the most important, although the brand is a secret. I prefer having curls to straight hair because curls give a sexy look.

Which is your favourite perfume?

Instead of perfumes, I use lotions because I can use them on my whole body instead of just a small area. I use the Chanel No. 5 lotion.

What is the one grooming service you cannot do without?

Massages. I have traditional body massages four times a week. It gets my blood circulation flowing well and is good for slimming.

What, in your opinion, is the best beauty invention?

It has to be shampoo, of course. And also hair dye, because it can enhance and brighten your skin tone. I like strange colours, especially shiny orange shades.

What is the most ridiculous thing you have done in the name of beauty?

I am extremely dedicated to my body massages. To me, it's even more important than washing my face or removing make-up. I have also learnt to do it myself. You can say I'm crazy about it.

What is the best beauty tip anyone has given you?

I have several. You need to have a blusher which best suits your skin colour.

Your eyebrows need to be groomed nicely. You should always carry lip balm to moisturise your lips.

Have a good hairdresser who can recommend you the most suitable shampoo and hair colour.

Also, having clean fingernails is a very basic part of good presentation.

Lastly, loving yourself is very important. Eat what you love or buy your favourite clothes and shoes.
