Angelica is teary-eyed on big day

PETALING JAYA - Malaysian actress-singer Angelica Lee Sin Jie has revealed that she was moved to tears during her wedding on Saturday.

“I was moved to tears when my parents put on the veil for me,” she told Sin Chew Daily in an interview after marrying Hong Kong film director Oxide Pang Chun.

“I was also very touched when I said I do, I cried when I served tea to my mentor Sylvia Chang Ai Jia when the latter told Pang that ‘I am handing over my good daughter to you’,’’ she said.

Pang proposed to Angelica last year. They had dated for seven years.

The couple’s marriage was held at the luxurious Pangkor Laut Resort.

It was reported by the Chinese press that the ceremony started at 10am when 44-year-old Pang, his best man Aaron Kwok and brothers, all dressed in white, climbed stairs midway to the hill and took a gold-coloured MPV to the hill top suite where the bride was.

Pang went through several rounds of “tests” before the door was opened for him to receive the bride.

The couple had a tea ceremony, exchanged rings and wedding vows.

The private ceremony was attended by relatives, family members and close friends, including those from the entertainment circle — Sylvia Chang, Gigi Leung, Charlie Yeung, director You Fan and others.

Also present was Pang’s 10-year-old daughter from his previous marriage.

China Press quoted a staff member from the resort who said the wedding expenses exceeded RM350,000(S$144,655).

Angelica’s father, Lee Chiok San said the wedding expenses exceeded RM100,000 and Pang put up the bill.

Security personnel, who were on a speed boat, also advised members of the media awaiting at nearby waters to leave.

The beach and sea area near Emerald Bay where the wedding dinner was held was also cordoned off.

Potted plants and giant palm leaves were used to “shield” the area and block photographers from taking shots from a speed boat.

To ensure privacy for the wedding, the couple also banned guests not to reveal details of the ceremony.

Angelica won the Best Newcomer Award at the Berlin Film Festival in 2001, Best Actress at the Golden Horse Award in 2002 for the hit horror movie, The Eye.
