It was in the prestigious salons on Avenue Montaigne that John Galliano’s Amazonian models strutted their stuff for the highly anticipated Christian Dior collection, under the admiring watch of Kylie Minogue. A presentation that frequently looked to the past, with references to the work of couturier Charles James and to Mr Dior’s ‘New Look’, but which was equally inspired by the exhibition that is on show at the moment in New York which focuses on iconic American women. The end result was that of waisted jackets and incredibly tight-fitting skirts. The evening dresses were made out of draped duchess satin in a heavenly range of colours, with the waist brought to the front. Haute couture gives John Galliano the opportunity to work on clothes as if they were almost on-screen costumes. The jewels were impressive, the hair-styles were stately, lips were blood red and eyes were made up with bright tones.
