Jacelyn's most challenging role yet

Despite work taking time away from her son, she says she enjoyed playing Moyan, calling it "the most challenging role" of her career.

The svelte actress says: "A role like this comes once in a lifetime, and the only other role was Dong Fang Bu Bai."

That was her high-profile role as the androgynous villain in The Legendary Swordsman, a 2000 Channel 8 adaptation of Louis Cha's novel.

Of her time on Game Plan, Tay says: "It really reinforced my passion for acting. She is so many things - a gentle damsel first and a tyrant next - that I found it hard to lock down her character. But I learnt that she's herself most when she is alone. The script has a lot of wit in it too."

Plus, she adds jokingly, she just had to do it after producers told her that she was "the only one who can take on this role".

But do not expect her to start filming again because she wants to spend more time with her son. "The funny thing is, if we're around during his bedtime, he won't sleep, even if he's dozing off.

No matter what, he just wants to stay awake.

"I realised I really need to spend more time with him," she says.

Zavier has even developed a slight preference for his father, which makes her "very jealous".

She says: "If you put him in front of the two of us, he'll look for his dad. Maybe because Brian 'bribes' Zavier with fun and I'm always the serious one."

So what does a mother do?

"I try to be more fun and act as a rabbit or buffalo for him."
