Textured textiles
by Ian Lee

Rumpled, crumpled or puckered – designers displayed their love for tactile fabrics and innovative textured details on dresses, skirts and coats.

As an ode to theatre, ballet and the opera, Marc Jacobs (photo 1) concocted creations that looked fresh from the Moulin Rouge with tufts of ruffles, lace, silk satin and lame.

Dolce & Gabbana’s (photo 2) showing was another tactile treat.

The flamboyant Italian duo looked back to 1990s styles and South American flavour with looks sporting lace, macrame knotting, lingerie references and silk fringing.

There is good reason everyone from Prince to Rihanna graced Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel’s show – rough textures like the house’s signature nubbly tweed jackets were a counterpoint to romantic lace, sheer floaty blouses and fluttery chiffons (photo 3).

Fashion iconoclasts Viktor & Rolf delivered tulle and lace cocktail dresses (photo 4) and ballgowns that were slashed with chainsaws to literally defy gravity.
