Here come the plus-size mums
by Juliana June Rasul

HOLLYWOOD - We are all for pop stars loving their body, no matter what size they come in, but fuller-sized stars need to be careful what they're walking down the red carpet in.

Continuing their decades-long clash - both were Mickey Mouse Club graduates before going head-to-head on the pop charts - Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears are now judges on competing reality shows (The Voice and The X Factor US, respectively).

And now, having filled out since becoming mothers, they might as well be competing to see who can make the better figure-friendly fashion choice on the red carpets.

At The X Factor US's second season premiere in September, the 30-year-old Spears wore a Stella McCartney dress with an oriental print that unfortunately pointed straight at her chunky middle.

Just a few days later, Aguilera, 31, turned up at the Alma Awards in Pasadena, California, in a skin-tight Michael Kors dress with tasteful see-through lace on her arms and sides, and a conservative slit up her left leg.

Black may have been a good choice to hide unsightly folds and bellies, but it was also a little harsh for her fair skin and her blonde hair.

Aguilera opted for more fun in her fashion choice when she turned up at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles earlier this month to announce the nominations for the upcoming American Music Awards.

The Alexander Wang dress's purple hue complemented the bright purple and pink ends of Aguilera's hair. It was a fun look, and Aguilera was playful in it, sticking out her bum for the red carpet photographers. Alas, it also made her look like she had to be stuffed into the dress. Kudos to whatever brand of shapewear she used to keep that belly in, though.

The very next day, Spears outshone both Aguilera and all her previous fashion choices with a classy glittery white dress from rebooted 70s brand Halston.

The dress skimmed over problem areas, while giving her a nipped-in waist, making her look like a towering column of fabulousness.

The two straps going across her back added just the right touch of class to the outfit, which she wore to an event honouring ebooted 70s brand Halston CEO Ben Malka.
