Pop star born and braid

UNITED STATES - We can always count on Solange Knowles to deliver a killer outfit at peformances, especially when the summer music festivals were in full swing recently.

The 27-year-old US singer used those events to showcase her one-of-a-kind stage style and new thigh-grazing braids that allowed her to do her best "Whip My Hair" impression a la Willow Smith. It's a pity these eclectic displays were short-lived.

The mother-of-one announced last week that she'll be cancelling her European tour dates next month for her "mental/physical health" and to "provide some stability" for her family.

1. Knowles was in her element at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in mid-June in Tennessee. Her printed white bralet and matching high-waisted skirt from Au Jour Le Jour underneath a dusty rose short-sleeve cardigan screamed hipster chic.

She also has an eye for funky stuff - specifically those mirrored sunglasses from Le Specs that feature diamond-shaped lens encased within round gold frames.

2. A day later, she rocked the Northside Festival in New York in my favourite get-up so far.

The combination of green and navy striped T-shirt, frayed denim shorts and grey leather Emanuel Ungaro knee-high cut-out boots is pretty awesome.

3. This is where it goes downhill a little.

I usually fall for any pattern Knowles puts on, but this multicoloured silk Teatum Jones floral-print rise-and-fall bat-wing blouse with matching pants at last month's Glastonbury Festival in England isn't up my alley.

And for someone who's the queen of mixing the unmixable, she seems to have lost her way. The Sophia Webster ankle-strap patent leather pointy kitten heels - in over-designed black and white- clash with the rest of her ensemble in the worst possible way.
