Is Hong Kong actress Gigi Lai due to marry soon?

Reports of her impending marriage to handicapped tycoon, Ma Ting Qiang, appeared in Hong Kong tabloid Oriental Daily News yesterday. The report stated that the 37-year-old actress and her 52-year-old beau have set the wedding date on February 22. The wedding will take place in Sydney, Australia and only close friends will be invited.


Gigi made the headlines last year when she announced her retirement from the showbiz industry after 23 years. Her younger brother, Stephen Lai, a dermatologist, was involved in an accident and she took time out to look after him.

While many of her colleagues in the Hong Kong entertainment circle are unaware of the wedding, the tabloid said the news did not come as a surprise, as the couple have been dating for six years.

Ma also stood by Gigi when her brother was injured and provided emotional and financial support. When she became exhausted by shuttling between looking after her brother, his skin clinic and filming the drama series "The Gem of Life", Ma had told her: "I will look after you, stop working." She was reportedly touched by his gesture, and was convinced that he was a man she can depend on.


Ma is the son of the founder of another Hong Kong tabloid, Oriental Daily.


Gigi is said to be setting out for Sydney before the Lunar New Year to make preparations for her wedding. Although the actress has not confirmed the reports, her father reportedly affirmed the news when he was in hospital to visit his son. He said: "Yes! You will know about it soon."
