BOYS will always worship their sports stars, so is it any wonder that Real Madrid's footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has started a craze for shorts?
Ronaldo's version is the male equivalent of the female hot pants.
The shorts are hardly bigger than a pair of y-fronts, and that is not a style that works for all.
First, you'll need killer thighs and your body fat percentage must be in single digits.
Luckily, you can still put your legs on display but retain some level of modesty.
A good fit is important.
Too-baggy shorts are comfortable but sloppy, but wear them too tight, you'll look like an off-duty go-go boy.
I always like my shorts to end just around the knee, and this looks good on guys with short legs.
I like it as simple as possible - flat fronts, minimal details - although I've seen some guys rock the front pleats and side pockets.
One style to avoid - please, I beg of you - is the dorky straight-cut three-quarter denim pants with lots of pockets and buckles.
And almost inevitably, the guy wearing it would be under 1.6m tall.
Hard to pull off
Even a male model would find it difficult to carry that look, so mere mortals shouldn't bother.
Roll up legs - stopping just above the ankles - is a better alternative, though that trend is rapidly waning (it is now pants that end up at that length).
And in the recent Milan menswear fashion week, labels are still showing shorts that end mid-thigh.
And, perhaps in an ode to the recession, greys are cropping up everywhere.
But it doesn't matter what is showing on the runway: If there is one truth, it's that boys only bother to dress up when they want to impress the girls.
We've lined up five different looks - modelled by Shao Yang, an up-and-coming artiste from GW Agency - and I've asked my friends who are former The New Paper New Face finalists to pick their favourite look.
Wearing these looks may not get you a babe of these girls' calibre, but it's good to dream, isn't it?
