KUALA LUMPUR: Some couples are going the distance to make their Valentine's Day special.
Student Shanthi Suppiah, 21, from the United Kingdom, who is residing here, said she and her boyfriend, Shaun Gill, 27, would send each other a "love box" for Valentine's Day.
"We fill the boxes with items that remind us of each other."
Information technology executive Chandran Sivalingam, 30, said he had been sending a gift to his lover in Chennai for the past two years.
"I would love to spend time with my other half. But I am working in Petaling Jaya and could not afford to go back to meet her.
"The only thing I can do now is to send her a gift and call her on Valentine's Day," said Chandran, who is from Chennai.
Sarenraj Rajendran, 21, said it was important for couples dating long distance to go the extra mile during special occasions like Valentine's Day to keep the romance alive.
"It is hard being away from your loved one and effort is needed to maintain a healthy relationship."
The engineering student said he and his girlfriend, Rachel Kee, 21, would call each other regularly via Skype while she was studying in Melbourne.
